Autumn can bring great scenery to the Hudson Valley. Whether you are traveling in the Sullivan Catskills or enjoying the view from the "Walkway over the Hudson". The sites can be breath taking and pictures begin flooding our social media! If you have kids the leaves can also provide great enjoyment from large leaf piles, to filling up pumpkin bags, and building scarecrows. I have an almost three year old myself and definitely enjoy playing in the leaves like everyone else.
Once the fun is over the task of removing the leaves from your lawn and property can be daunting. Especially if you have several larger trees full of foliage overhanging your property. It can happen all at once with a good wind storm. A once manageable task can turn into a white flag of surrender in a few hours! There are many different views on the best way to handle leaves on your property. On one hand people suggest simply running them over with your mower and "mulching" them into lawn. This is not as simple as it sounds because if you do not have proper blades on mower or only have a push mower it can do more harm then good. On the other hand, you can hire a professional to come quickly clean your lawn removing leaves, debris, and other unwanted nuisances.
Personally I suggest a mixture of approaches. During late September and early October I sometimes will mulch the leaves or use a bagging system to remove them from my lawn weekly while it is manageable...but this approach is a lot more work. Once it gets to be middle of October and November the once manageable situation with a mower requires a high powered leaf blower and some patience to remove leaves from property. In my opinion the worst thing you can do is leave the "leaves" all winter. It will attract a breeding ground for ticks, critters, and other undesirable rodents. The leaves will also begin starving a once healthy lawn of nutrients and you will then find many bare spots in the Spring where lawn once grew. If you cannot keep up on your yard this Fall hire a professional for weekly maintenance or one clean up. Baer Landscaping offers both options and depending on your situation one might suit you better then the other.
